Dnipro (Ukrainian: in 1776–1796 and in 1802–1926 - Katerynoslav, in 1796–1802 - Novorossiysk, in 1926–2016 - Dnipropetrovsk, rosm. - Dnipro) is a city in southeastern Ukraine, the administrative center and also of the Dnipro agglomeration. Located on the Dnipro and Samara rivers. A large industrial, cultural, scientific and innovation center. The fourth most populous city in Ukraine after Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odessa.
One of the largest industrial centers of Ukraine: ferrous metallurgy, metalworking, mechanical engineering and other branches of heavy industry are especially developed, since 1965 the Ministry of Ferrous Metallurgy of the Ukrainian SSR was located here. Dnipropetrovsk was one of the key centers of the defense and space industries of the Soviet Union, so the city was closed to foreigners until the 1990s.
